Future of Labour Inspection in OSH

Abstract:

The International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) is the global professional association for labour inspection. The association has over 100 network members worldwide. IALI, as an independent association without political and religious ties, has one aim: to help working people in the field of health and safety all over the world.

Since 1972, IALI has been the global foundation association for labour inspection. IALI plays an active role in providing the foundation for building professional, ethical, and effective labour inspection worldwide.

Traditionally, Labour Inspection primary focus is on compliance, enforcement (aka policeman role).  Today, modern Labour Inspection also focus on engagement, and engendering ownership.  This is in addition to enforcement. However, there is an increasing focus on wellbeing and care (including mental health) & leveraging on supply chain to influence change.

This is to address the changing world of work as a result of climate change, disruption of supply chain, blurring of employer/employee relationship and pandemic, collaboration is key.  This can be at various levels, namely international, national and enterprises level. One such collaboration programme between IALI and ISSA is the development of the Vision Zero Guide for Labour Inspection.

The presentation will also include a case study on Implementing Design for Safety In Singapore, highlighting the collaborative efforts in the implementation and lesson learned.
